ABOUT US

According to the EU's Water Directive of 2000 (revised in 2008), member states must take ecological and environmental aspects into account when designing and managing water resources, including hydropower plants. With this background Sweden has decided to revise the environmental evaluations of hydropower plants to ensure that they meet the requirements of the directive.

In the process of making the environmental evaluations the government is determined to involve stakeholders in the process. The idea is that this will ensure that the social and economic consequences of hydropower projects are taken into account and that the evaluations of hydropower plant is based on a balanced assessment of different interests.

This social science research project examines ongoing environmental evaluations of hydropower plants to provide a knowledge base for future environmental evaluations of hydropower plants in Sweden and beyond.

If you have experience with these processes (either as an owner of a hydropower plant or as a representative of other interests) and feel that you want to talk to us about your experience, you are very welcome to contact us using the form below. Write in your message if you want us to contact you.
